Joy Behar, the shrill harridan of daytime TV’s The View has, once again, crossed the line in her continuing quest to define Trump Derangement Syndrome. This time, instead of denigrating the religious views of Vice President Mike Pence as mental illness, she wants the entire Republican Party thrown in jail.
“This is an unbelievably corrupt president, and the Republican Party is right behind him and they all should be thrown into jail as far as I’m concerned,” Behar exclaimed. Naturally, the audience of liberal trained seals applauded wildly.
When Meghan McCain, the show’s ‘token’ conservative, pushed back saying, “you’re clearly frustrated this morning…and you are saying to the American public that all Republicans holding office should be in jail.” Behar immediately walked back her obvious overreaction by saying, “Well, you know, it’s what you call hyperbole.”
The entire conversation was prompted by Don McGhan’s refusal to testify at Jerry Nadler’s witch trial in the House, when presented with a possibly unconstitutional subpoena.
Mark Twain famously said, “if you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed…if you do read the newspaper, you’re misinformed.” To that we can add, if you watch shows like The View, you are outright lied to. The level of provable ignorance, and seemingly deliberate misinformation, spouted by Joy Behar and her co-hosts when it comes to this president and his administration is astonishing.
Behar’s hatred for President Trump, and by extension his administration, is on display every time she gets near a microphone. Many conservatives say that any attempt to educate her with facts or enlighten her is rebuffed with a sneer or sarcastic comment.
It does not seem to do any good to explain that the American people don’t want impeachment. A May 1, 2019 PBS poll showed 53 percent to 39 percent of Americans are against impeachment. It is likely to turn out in the end that there never was any basis for impeachment since no impeachable offenses have been charged.
Meghan McCain ended the discussion with the obvious: “If you want to impeach the president, you’re going to have to do a lot better than McGhan not showing up to testify in Congress.”
It is well to remember that while calling President Trump a racist and a criminal, among other epithets, does not make him one. There aren’t any photos of him in blackface with an afro as there are of Behar. Of course, many Americans are of the opinion that to Joy Behar, racism doesn’t matter as long as you hate the right people.
