There were some stressful moments in the White House this past week. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen had a major disagreement over border security.
Nielson was giving an in depth presentation on border security and illegal immigration when during it, Pelosi interrupted and said, “I reject your facts.”
Nielsen was quick to answer, “These aren’t my facts, These are the facts.”
This came about during a Wednesday meeting in the White House.
President Trump is standing strong on his demands for $5 billion for the border wall. Pelosi is rejecting any funding of a wall or barrier.
Rejecting funding is bad enough but Pelosi seems to want to bury her head in the sand and not listen to any pro-wall arguments.
Nielsen took to Twitter and tweeted:
The crisis is not going away-it is getting worse. The status quo in funding & authorities for #DHS is irresponsible & makes our country less secure. Kicking the can down the road is not the answer. I look forward to engaging w Members who want to listen & be part of the solution.

The second-ranking Senate Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois criticized Nielsen’s presentation. It was reported by Bloomberg that Durbin said it “was not a credible presentation.”
Durbin said, “It was preposterous. At a time when we have the lowest level of apprehensions at the border stopping people from coming in illegally, the lowest level historically, she is saying that we have all these terrorists and criminals and all these people on their way in.”
Nielsen was quoted as telling the Democrats that border officials along the U.S.-Mexico border had apprehended about 3,000 people with terrorist ties and 17,000 criminals last year.
Pelosi also asked the DHS head whether she was counting anyone crossing the border illegally as having a criminal record. The administration denied that that’s how the figure was devised.
As you can well imagine, Wednesday’s meeting didn’t resolve the government shutdown. Both sides are looking like they won’t budge.
I say to Speaker Pelosi, “Put the gavel and your ego to rest and face reality.”
